Annual family membership of the Society is £5. There is a charge of £1 at each meeting for members (£3 for non-members) unless indicated otherwise in the programme. New members are always welcome and further details may be obtained from the Secretary, Ann Greenslade, on 01245 224261
Historical Society members have enjoyed two excellent outings recently...
The De Coverly Museum
The visit was followed by more World War II memorabilia at the Weston Arms in Silver End, close to the wartime airfield at Rivenhall, which also supplied some restorative food and drink.
Combined Military Services Museum
In June members joined with Open Group to visit the Combined Military Services Museum in Maldon. This is an extremely well-appointed museum. There are tanks parked outside and weapons and armour from the Civil War on the ground floor. The other two floors feature uniforms and equipment from the twentieth century wars.
There is a large section devoted to the Cold War with clothing and equipment supplied to spies during that time. Peter Mason, who with his wife had donated the collection, was known to Ian Flemming and gave him some advice when he was creating his James Bond novels.
We were given a very entertaining talk by Marilyn Bullivant to introduce us to the museum and a delicious buffet to keep us going as we looked round the exhibition.
